history
The parish was founded in the 12th century. From 1558 to 1628 the parish church was under the patronage of the Protestant lord of the castle Zinzendorf-Pottendorf and Königsberg. The previous church probably stood in the eastern part of the park from Pottendorf Castle and was demolished. The new parish church was built from 1714 to 1718 by order of Gundaker Thomas Starhemberg by the master builder Franz Jänggl according to the plans of the architect Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt.
The mighty high baroque, cross-shaped central building with a single tower facade dominates the church square. The church is surrounded on three sides by a churchyard wall with sculptures. In 1769, under the master builder and pastor Johann Josef Zisser, a vestibule was built and the southern sacristy was expanded to include a chamber of paraments, with the churchyard wall in the west being removed.
