The parish church Seebenstein stands in the center of the village on a hill in the municipality of Seebenstein in the Neunkirchen district in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church , consecrated to the patronage of Andreas , belongs to the Lanzenkirchen dean's office in the vicariate Unter dem Wienerwald of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The church and the churchyard walls are under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

A parish is assumed to be before 1304. In 1430 a parish was mentioned in a document. After 1544 the parish was Protestant. From 1649 the church was temporarily looked after by the Minorites . In 1656 the church was restored under Karl von Pergen. In 1784 the parish was rebuilt under Josephinism .

Remains of the triumphal arch are preserved from the Romanesque church building. Probably in the first half of the 14th century the choir was built with a five-eighth closure , the outer walls and the east window have been preserved. In the first third of the 16th century, the late Gothic nave was expanded as a two-pillar room. In 1773 there was partly a Baroque renovation, the vault ribs in the choir were chipped off, the windows were enlarged, and the tower was raised in Baroque style. From 1849 to 1853 there was a regotization and renovation of the facility with the sculptor Joseph Angeler . Severe damage was caused by an earthquake in 1972, which was then repaired.

The church is surrounded by a medieval stone wall.

The outside of the church shows a nave under a steep gable roof with buttresses and pointed arched windows with late Gothic two-lane tracery. The high tower from the first third of the 16th century, positioned in the middle of the western front, has a neo-Gothic final storey from 1851. A high porch was added to the south around 1850, the portal is a shoulder portal, and in the stepped portal gable shows the relief of Christ from the former Grave monument of Wolfgang von Königsberg died in 1589. In the corners of the choir there are low extensions from the first quarter of the 16th century, to the south the sacristy has been changed in baroque and neo-Gothic styles, and to the north is the former mortuary chamber with a shoulder portal with an overlying relief of Christ with the globe Remainder of the tomb of Wolfgang von Königsberg.
