Phare du Haut-Fond Prince ( English Prince Shoal Light ) is the name of a lighthouse in the middle of the St. Lawrence River at the point where it flows into the Saguenay Fjord , about 7 km east of the town of Tadoussac .
The 25.3 m high tower was erected in 1964 on a shoal that is considered one of the most dangerous in the Saint Lawrence River. At this point the river is over 23 km wide. The lighthouse consists of a conical base in the form of a platform on which a cylindrical tower stands. The structure is marked with horizontal red and white warning stripes. This design was chosen because of the 6 m high tidal range at this point . The lighthouse emits a flash of white light every 2.5 seconds, which can still be seen from a distance of 18 nautical miles . Before the construction of the lighthouse was located since 1902 at this point a lightship . Extensive restoration work took place in 2002.
