Pharos Island

Pharos Island is an island in the South Georgia archipelago in the South Atlantic . It is the southernmost of the three large Welcome Islands and is one of the breeding areas of the golden crested penguin .

The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it 2009. It is named after the Pharos , one since 2006 in the service of the government of the British overseas territory South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands stationary vessel for fisheries inspection .
