Philip A. Draganov

Philip A. Draganov (born June 25, 1978 in Hamburg ) is a German violinist, teacher and conductor.

After taking private lessons with Roland Greutter in Hamburg, Draganov received his musical training with Uwe-Martin Haiberg at the Julius Stern Institute of the Berlin University of the Arts and then studied at the Juilliard School in New York with Margaret Pardee, Masao Kawasaki, Robert Chen and chamber music with Felix Galimir. In Europe he then studied with Herman Krebbers in Amsterdam, Ida Bieler in Düsseldorf, Jens Ellermann in Hanover and Nora Chastain in Zurich. He received important impulses from master classes with Ana Chumachenco, Thomas Brandis and Rosa Fain and with the string quartet from Hatto Beyerle (Alban Berg Quartet).

In parallel to his training as a violinist, Draganov completed his training as a conductor at the Zurich University of the Arts.

At the age of 10 he was awarded the 1st federal prize at “Jugend musiziert” in Germany. In the following years he won numerous awards and competitions such as the "Competition for the Promotion of Young Artists" and received a. a. the scholarship from the Oscar and Vera Ritter Foundation. At the age of 12 he made his debut as a soloist with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra in the Hamburg Laeiszhalle and has since performed a wide variety of international concerts. As a sought-after chamber musician, he regularly plays in changing formations from duo to octet. In addition to solo performances, recitals and chamber music concerts, Draganov is regularly requested by major orchestras and also takes on duties as concertmaster or section leader. CD recordings have been released by Acustica Records.

Draganov teaches violin and chamber music classes at the Zurich Conservatory (MKZ) and is responsible for the pre-college department. As a guest lecturer, he gives master classes in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, South Korea, the USA, Ukraine and Russia, also at various universities such as the renowned “Rimskij-Korsakow” Conservatory in St. Petersburg or the “Tblisi State Conservatoire ”in Georgia.

Since 2007, his students have won first prizes in national and / or international violin competitions and regularly appear as soloists with professional orchestras. Philip Draganov is also a member of the “European String Teachers Association” and a jury member at international competitions. In recent years he has also increasingly taken on duties as a conductor.

Since 2010 Philip A. Draganov has been the artistic director of "Youth Classics". (www.youth-classics.com) At the annual festival he teaches and gives concerts together with artists such as Nora Chastain, Rebecca Firth, Louise Hopkins, Volker Jacobsen, Jens Peter Maintz, Orfeo Mandozzi , Igor Ozim, Jan Schultsz and Dora Schwarzberg. Philip A. Draganov plays a violin by the Italian Tomaso Balestrieri from 1769 and a violin by the German violin maker Peter Greiner.

He lives near Zurich.
