Philip Hewitt is a diplomat from New Zealand .

Career

Hewitt attended Southland Boy High School, earned his Masters in International Development Aid from Lincoln University, and from 1981-1984 his BA in Economics from the University of Otago .

From 2001 Hewlitt worked as a Development Program Manager in the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This was followed by the position of first secretary for development aid in the High Commission in Apia ( Samoa ) from July 2003 to December 2006 and from January 2007 to December 2008 the Pacific Regional Policy Manager for NZAID in the "Partnerships, Humanitarian and Multilateral" department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From January 2009 to February 2013 Hewitt was again first secretary for development assistance, this time at the embassy in Thailand's Bangkok and from March 2013 to January 2016 consultant for development assistance at the embassy in the Indonesian Jakarta . From January 2016 to October 2016 he was Deputy Director for Scholarships and from November he was Head of Department for Managers, Partnerships and Funds, both at the State Department in Wellington .

On October 18, 2018, Hewitt's appointment as New Zealand's new Ambassador to East Timor was announced.
