Philippe Charles Lucien Christanval (born August 31, 1978 in Paris ) is a former French football player .

Career

Christanval's first club was INF et Sarcelles , which he left in 1994 for AS Monaco . In 2001 the Frenchman moved to FC Barcelona for around € 17 million . If he was there regularly in his first season, he was thrown back in his second season due to injuries and could only play four league games in the starting XI. From 2003 to 2005 he was under contract with Olympique Marseille . Here, too, he was stopped early by injuries, when he arrived as captain, only made 13 league games in the first year and in the second year he was seconded to the second team due to his high salary. In 2005 he moved to Fulham FC . The bad luck with injuries followed Christanval at this club. He played regularly in his first two seasons, but in his third season in 2007/08 he was only able to play one league game as a substitute. When Fulham did not want to renew the contract after this season and he could not find a new club, Christanval decided to end his career at the age of 30.

Christanval played five times for the French national football team between 2000 and 2002 .
