The Philippine Association of the Deaf ( English Philippine Federation of the Deaf , short PFD ) is the national organization of the Deaf in the Philippines, and also a member organization of the World Federation of the Deaf .

Objectives

The Philippine Deaf Association aims to serve all members of the Deaf community, regardless of belief, socio-economic class, sexual orientation, age, or ethnic background. The main objectives of the organization are as follows:

  • Equal employment opportunities and access to quality education, as well as to government and private sector telecommunications and mass media, to social services and to the public / public transport system;
  • Using Filipino Sign Language (FSL) as the preferred language of the Filipino Deaf and supporting related research and development programs / projects;
  • Raising public awareness of the Deaf in Filipino society and supporting efforts to spread it
  • Support for the training of qualified interpreters for the deaf.
