Mor Philoxenos Yuhanon Dolobani ( Aramaic ܝܘܚܢܢ ܕܘܠܒܢܝ, Arabic فيلكسينوس يوحنا دولباني; * 1885 in Mardin ; † 1969 ) was a Syrian Orthodox Metropolitan of Mardin and a learned author .

Life

In 1908 he became a monk in the Zafaran monastery near Mardin, worked as a teacher in monastery schools and in the orphanage of Adana. In 1925/26 he lived in the Markus Monastery in Jerusalem. In 1947 the diocese of Mardin was founded and Dolabani became a metropolitan. He wrote, published and translated numerous works in Syrian , Arabic and Turkish . Some things have not yet been printed.

As a pastor, he took care of the few and isolated Christians in eastern Turkey since the First World War , sending monks and deacons to bring them, mainly Syrian Orthodox and Armenians, widely and often secretly, proclaiming their faith and baptizing them. For the Syrian Orthodox Christians who moved to Istanbul, who no longer understood Syriac, he created a Turkish translation of the liturgical texts. He was buried in his home monastery.
