Photobiology

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The photobiology is an interdisciplinary branch of biology and chemistry . It is used to research the interaction between light and organisms . The research field includes the phenomena of photosynthesis , photomorphogenesis , sense of sight , circadian rhythms , bioluminescence and damage caused by ultraviolet radiation and lasers . On the biological side, the properties of natural pigments are of particular interest, as these essentially determine the absorption properties of organic matter. In the physiological field, the ability of the pigments to transduce energy or signals plays a key role.
