Phytomass
Phytomass describes the biomass of living plants in a defined area. In a broader sense, the mass of dead plants (the necromass ) is often included in the phytomass. A total of 82% of the biomass is of plant origin.
Worldwide, the energy stored in the phytomass is around 10 22 joules , which corresponds to about ten times the annual production and is roughly the same size as the known stocks of fossil fuels .
