Phytosphere

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The phytosphere describes the entirety of plant life on planet earth. In addition to the zoosphere , the phytosphere forms one of the two macroscopically visible components of the global biocenosis - the biosphere as defined by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin .

The term was coined twice or three times independently of one another in the years 1912/1913 and 1938. However, the three coined terms differed only insignificantly in terms of content. For the history of the third term coinage from 1938 see History of the Term Aquasphere .
