PicApport is a freely available image management software from Contecon Software GmbH. The server-side software makes it possible to make photos available in a computer network .

history

The PicApport project was initiated in summer 2011 by Eric Schreiner at Contecon Software GmbH. The original goal of the project was to create an intelligent image viewer for a private WLAN that would allow photos to be displayed on any connected tablet computer or mobile phone and to search for them using metadata without having to transfer the photos to an external service or Internet provider.

PicApport is maintained by Contecon Software GmbH and is available free of charge.

Functions

Photo server

The PicApport photo server runs on almost all platforms that support Java . Once configured, new photos are found on the server and can be searched for and displayed using their metadata such as title, persons or keywords via the PicApport web frontend. The metadata can be used to generate dynamic collections that automatically expand when the server finds new photos with matching criteria. The web front end of the server is specially adapted for mobile devices such as tablets or cell phones, but can also be operated from a stationary computer.

Extensions

To support other file formats, the PicApport server can be expanded via a documented plug-in interface. There are plugins available for most RAW formats, bitmap formats, PDF documents and video formats.
