The Picard GmbH (formerly: Johann Hermann Picard ) is one of the most important producers of hammers in Germany .

history

Carpenter hammer type No. 298

Johann Hermann Picard created from 1857 in Cronenberg (today Wuppertal ) in the district Rottsiepen from a small forge a company that is now one of the most important producers of hammers in Germany belongs. Until about 1900 it was made by hand. When steam, gas and electricity became available, drop forging supplemented hand forging - a development that was similar across the entire industry, for example at Knipex . From 1920, the product range was expanded, especially with hammers and forging tools. From 1950 dent removal tools (bodywork tools) were added to the range. In 1956 Picard introduced tools with a tubular steel handle to the European market, thereby laying the foundation for today's market leadership, especially in the carpenter's hammer . In 1995 Picard expanded the range for roofers, plumbers and carpenters.

On July 1, 2017, Erwin Halder KG from Achstetten near Ulm took over Joh.Hermann PICARD GmbH & Co. KG and the fully integrated subsidiary RUTHE Hammerfabrik GmbH & Co. KG and transferred them together to the new company PICARD GmbH based in Wuppertal .

production

Production takes place entirely at the Wuppertal location. With around 70 employees, annual sales of around eight million euros are achieved. Picard currently produces around 20,000 hammers and 10,000 tubular steel tools per week, and around 800,000 hammers a year. 700 items are in the range, including 350 different hammers. At the CeBIT 2006 trade fair , the all-steel carpenter's hammer 790 with leather handle was honored with the IF Design Award as one of the 50 best design products of 2005 .

Picard's target groups are industry, construction and craft. It exports to Switzerland , Austria , France and Italy as well as the Scandinavian and Benelux countries .
