Pierre-Michel Menger

Pierre-Michel Menger (* 1953 in Paris ) is a French sociologist and since January 2014 a professor of sociology creative work at the College de France and at the elite university Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris.

Life

He was previously Research Director at the Center national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) at the University of Paris V and Director of Studies at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales , Paris. He has been a member of the Academia Europaea since 2010 .

His work and research focus are the sociology of art , the art markets and the evaluation systems for art as well as the work and employment in the field of arts and culture.

In his text “Art and Bread” (in the original Métamorphoses du capitalisme ) he advocates the thesis that the artist has become the prototype and ideal of the contemporary, flexible and creative worker.
