Pierre Dipy

Pierre Dipy (* in Aleppo ; † 1709 in Paris ) was a maronite , orientalist and librarian .

Maronit, who was married to a French woman, Marie de Musnier, took over the professorship for Arabic and Syriac at the Collège Royal in Paris after the death of Pierre Vattier . In 1669 he traveled to the Orient to buy manuscripts for the Royal Library. After his return he was commissioned to catalog her oriental manuscripts and books. He produced catalogs of the Arabic, Persian and Turkish holdings of the Bibliothèque du Roi and the oriental manuscripts of the Minister Jean-Baptiste Colbert . In total, he worked for 39 years at the Royal Library, the forerunner of today's Bibliothèque nationale de France .
