In 1961, the brothers Hans and Peter Andersen founded a craft business that produced costume jewelry for other brands and wholesalers. In 1984 the Pierre Lang Europe Handelsgesellschaft mbH was founded and the jewelry sales took over. Since 2002 the company has also been producing a real jewelry collection made of 925 sterling silver. The pieces of jewelery are designed in-house and manufactured in the two production facilities in Vienna and Ireland.
Pierre Lang has around 70 branches in 12 European countries (as of 2010). These include Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, England, Luxembourg, France, Belgium, Spain, Ireland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The company employs around 300 permanent employees and around 6,000 freelance consultants who sell the jewelry at private sales parties. From 2001 to 2003 the Pierre Lang Fashion Award for fashion design was presented. Since 2005 the jewelry design award has been so fresh. the jewelery award by Pierre Lang given to jewelery, fashion and product designers from Europe. It is endowed with 10,000 euros in prize money. Pierre Lang also supports junior managers in the acm mentoring program. In 2007, Pierre Lang donated a piece of jewelery to the Vienna Opera Ball .
On January 1, 2010, Pierre Lang was sold to the German direct sales entrepreneur Helmut Spikker. After bankruptcy in September 2012, the company was sold in December 2012 to the Munich-based investment company SMB around Hieronymus Graf Metternich as well as Martin and Christoph Schoeller. At the end of 2018, the group of companies, which at that time had around 250 employees, had to file for bankruptcy again. In April 2019, the Vorarlberg company Luna Trading , which is also active in the party and direct sales of jewelry, announced that it was taking over Pierre Lang.
Products
The fashion jewelry collection, which has existed since 1984, is available in gold-plated, rhodium-plated, rose gold-plated and ruthenium-plated metal. A real jewelry collection made of 925 sterling silver was introduced in 2002, but discontinued in 2011.
distribution
Pierre Lang jewelry is offered exclusively through direct sales / multi-level marketing . Similar to Tupperware , sales parties are held at private customers ' homes. These jewelry parties or jewelry presentations are supervised by a jewelry advisor who demonstrates and advises the collections. The consultant receives a commission for the turnover achieved at the presentation. The hostess of a presentation receives a gift in the form of jewelry diamonds. A total of around 275,000 presentations take place each year.
