Pigbag

Pigbag was a British jazz revival group in the context of post-punk , 1980 by Chris Hamlin in Cheltenham founded.

Pigbag had its first success at the end of 1981 with the single Sunny Day . Their most successful single Papa's Got a Brand New Pigbag took the title with regard to Papa's Got a Brand New Bag of James Brown . It reached number 3 in Great Britain in 1982 . Three years later, Paul Hardcastle took the title under the name The Silent Underdog in an Electrofunk version and reached lower chart ranks. B-side of this publication was once again the Pigbag version. For Paul Oakenfold and Perfecto Allstarz, a trance version of the piece was made in 1995 under the title Reach Up (Papa's Got A Brand New Pigbag) to a top 10 hit.

Pigbag was able to place a total of four singles from the debut album Dr Heckle and Mr Jive in the charts, which even made it into the top 20 of the UK charts. However, all other publications lagged significantly behind this success. After several tours, recordings and a few changes in the line-up it came to a breakup in June 1983.
