A pilomatrix carcinoma (also matric carcinoma, malignant pilomatrixoma) is a very rare malignant skin tumor of the matrix cells of the hair follicle . It is the malignant variant of pilomatrixoma and occurs predominantly in male patients between the ages of 40 and 50. Pilomatrix carcinoma tends to be locally aggressive and resistant to radiation therapy, as well as to form distant metastases . Therapy consists in removing the tumor with a large safety margin. The recurrence rate is 50–60% of cases.

The pilomatrix carcinoma was first described by N. Gromiko in 1927. Pilomatrix carcinomas also occur in dogs .
