Pinning or English soccer is a game in which you try to snap pieces into the opponent's goal.

Usual hand position when snipping the coins, to which there are also alternatives.

regulate

The game is played with three pieces on a flat playing surface - usually a rectangular table . The two players sit on the short sides of the table.

Standard pinninger opening with three coins

Throwing a coin determines which player goes first. He then arranges the three game pieces in a triangle. A move now consists of the player snapping a piece and shooting it through the goal formed by the other two . If he is successful, he stays on the move. Otherwise it is the second player's turn. A move is considered to have failed (unsuccessful) if

  • the player touches more than one piece with his hand
  • the game piece is not flicked, but pushed or similar. becomes
  • the touched piece slides past the other two pieces or remains in front of them
  • one token touches another
  • a piece leaves the playing area
  • is played with the same token as on the previous move. In particular, it is forbidden to undo a move by playing back with the same stone or playing with one stone in a zigzag through a large goal of the other two stones.

goal of the game

A gate is formed by spreading the index finger and little finger through which the coin slides up to the knuckles.

The aim of the game is to use valid moves to bring one of the pieces into the opposing goal. This is either marked by two more pieces or by a fist supported on the edge, with the index finger and smaller spread on the table, thus forming the goal post . A valid goal only counts if the piece slides over the edge of the table after passing the post or touches the knuckles of the fist. Touching the posts is allowed.

variants

Soccer

Each of the two players has three game pieces available. It is flicked either alternately or until the current player makes an invalid move. The larger number of stones makes it more difficult to avoid collisions. In addition, it is possible to introduce the rule that opposing pieces can also be used as goals or that one of your own and one opposing piece always serves as a goal (which also allows the game with only two pieces per player).

Obstacles

Depending on the initial setup and playing area, direct shots are possible, so that the game piece enters the goal immediately after the first flick. To avoid this, it is common to put an obstacle, box, wallet or whatever on hand in the middle of the table. If a piece touches the obstacle, the move is considered to have failed.

As an extension, other obstacles are of course also possible, which further change the shape of the playing surface.

Four coins

A rather rare variant is the game with four instead of three coins. Here, the flicked stone must hit another, so that either the flicked or the touched piece slides through the goal of the other two. Since this variation is very difficult and requires additional tactics, it is not recommended for beginners.

material

A playing surface and suitable game pieces are required .

The playing surface is usually a table. This should be as smooth and even as possible so as not to influence the game through uneven sliding. Plastic-coated tables are particularly suitable. Beware of glass tables and other sensitive surfaces: depending on the object used, these can be scratched. Tablecloths and other fabrics are unsuitable for most game pieces.

Coins are usually used as game pieces, as they are easy to standardize, slide well on common tables and are always available. Here, 1 to 5 cent coins are preferred because their size allows them to be played even on small areas. Larger coins are also slower and lead to fatigue or even injury to fingers and fingernails more quickly.

distribution

Since pinning can be played with very simple means, it is suitable for short games in the office, university or school. Three coins, a table and a few minutes are enough for a full game. Thanks to the simple rules and processes, even beginners can quickly find their way around, so that it spreads quickly, especially among young people. Almost without exception, the rules are passed on orally, so that the variants to be found often differ.
