Piotr Mateusz Andrzej Cywiński (born April 16, 1972 in Warsaw ) is a member of the International Auschwitz Committee . Since September 2006 he has headed the State Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau (Polish: Państwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau, memorial to the German Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp ) in the southern Polish city of Oświęcim .

Life

Piotr Cywiński spent many years of his life in Switzerland and France with his father, the opposition journalist Bohdan Cywiński, who had gone into exile for political reasons. He studied history and was u. a. European chairman of the World Association of Catholic Academics and Artists, " Pax Romana ".

The former Polish Foreign Minister and Ambassador to Vienna, Władysław Bartoszewski , brought Cywiński to the International Auschwitz Committee as secretary in 2000. Since 2006 he has been the director of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum.

From 2005 to 2007, Piotr Cywiński was the vice-chairman of Wikimedia Polska, and since May 2007 he has been a member of the company's audit committee.
