Pisang Ambon
Pisang Ambon is a Dutch fruit liqueur with 20 % alcohol by volume .
The recipe for the liqueur is originally from Indonesia , but was brought to the Netherlands by a soldier in 1948. After a few changes to the recipe, it was first marketed by the Levert & Co distillery. Today Pisang Ambon is made by Lucas Bols .
The liqueur is green and tastes mainly of banana , plus the taste of herbs and spices. It is mostly used as a cocktail ingredient.
The word Pisang means banana, but the liqueur has nothing to do with the green type of banana that thrives on the island of Ambon .
