The urinal on Bahnhofstrasse

The urinal on Bahnhofstrasse in Neumünster is a public men's toilet that was set up in the 19th century in connection with the construction of the opposite Catholic church St.Maria-St.Vicelin .

description

It is an industrially manufactured rotunda made of cast iron and corrugated iron with a conical roof with a lantern at the top . There used to be several such toilet buildings in Neumünster. Today, however, only the urinal in Bahnhofstrasse remains. In 2007 it was placed under monument protection. In 2012 the urinal was closed due to the need for renovation. In the following year, the rotunda was to be restored for around 60,000 euros. During the planning phase, however, the city of Neumünster determined that the Deutsche Bahn is still the owner of the urinal. While the city of Neumünster would like to buy the building with the property in order to leave it in its historical place, the railway plans to use the property as a construction site for the upcoming renovation of the neighboring railway bridge.
