Pitch & Putt

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pitch & Putt (also pitch and putt , English pitch and putt , meaning: "teeing off and pitting") is a simplified variant of the traditional ball sport of golf .

Scene from an English pitch and putt facility

The rules of pitch and putt are essentially the same as those of golf. The aim is to play a ball from the tee into the hole with as few strokes as possible , using different golf clubs . In contrast to golf, only three different ones are allowed here, one of which has to be a putter . The main difference to golf is the significantly shorter fairways . With an average of 90  m , their length is usually between 40 m and 120 m, according to the traditional golf definition thus all par 3 holes . The total length does not exceed 1200 m.

In pitch and putt, ideally the ball should be played from the tee with a single stroke, the pitch , to the green , followed by putts to finish the hole. Because of its lower difficulty, pitch & putt is suitable for beginners as an introduction to "real" golf.
