Place Clairefontaine
The place called Place de Clairefontaine (German: Clairefontaine-Platz ) is located in the heart of Luxembourg City between the Cathedral of Our Lady and the Chamber (Chamber of Deputies). At the end of the 1980s, the square was redesigned in the course of extensive restoration and reconstruction work in the surrounding district.
Historically, the Rue de Clairefontaine was to be found here, which also bore the German name Badenburgerstrasse or Bardenburgergasse, named after a refuge that belonged to the former Clairefontaine Abbey (German Badenburg or Bardenburg) near Arel and was demolished in 1933.
The Grand Duchess Charlotte monument has been located on Clairefontaine Square since 1990 and the Foreign Ministry building next to it. The Minister of State also has his seat there. Under the square is an underground car park that is not open to the public.
