Placido Rizzotto

Placido Rizzotto (born January 2, 1914 in Corleone , † March 10, 1948 ) was an Italian union leader and active in the fight against the mafia .

Life

He was secretary to the Corleone Chamber of Labor. After World War II , he became the leader of the trade union movement and fought against the mafia. In return, the latter intimidated his employees and increasingly isolated him. On March 10, 1948, Rizzotto disappeared without a trace. The police blamed Luciano Liggio for this.

Rizzotto's life was filmed in 2000 under the title Placido Rizzotto .

In 2009, the remains of his body were found in a mass grave. In March 2012, the Italian Council of Ministers decided to host a state funeral for him. On May 24th of the same year he was buried in Corleone in the presence of President Giorgio Napolitano and several top politicians and trade union leaders.
