from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The plaque of the Luftwaffenkommando Südost was a non-wearable award of the German Air Force during the Second World War , which was donated by General der Flieger Martin Fiebig in 1944 for the members of the Luftwaffenkommando Südost . An exact dating of the creation is not possible. It was between the establishment of the command in January 1944 and its dissolution in October of the same year.

The plaque has the shape of a tapering shield, is bronze 141 mm high and 121 mm wide. On its front it shows the geographical outlines of Greece and large parts of the Balkan Peninsula , in the middle of which the sovereign badge of the Air Force is depicted in raised embossing. Above it is the two-line inscription: FOR SPECIAL SERVICES / IN THE SOUTH-EAST AREA and under the Luftwaffe eagle , also in two lines, THE COMMANDING GENERAL AND / COMMANDER IN THE LW.KDO SOUTH-EAST . Again under this inscription is the signature of the founder of the shield in facsimile Fiebig and underneath his rank GENERAL DER FLIEGER . The plaque was presented with an award certificate in the format 18.5 cm (height) × 15 cm (width).
