Ursensollen planetarium with observatory (2019)

The planetarium with observatory Ursensollen is a public planetarium with an attached observatory in the Bavarian district of Amberg-Sulzbach . It is located on the southwestern outskirts of Ursensollen at an altitude of about 535 m , separated by a small piece of forest .

The planetarium and observatory are open to the interested public at least once a week and as part of booked group tours or special astronomical events. Visitors can both enjoy an interactive planetarium show and, weather permitting, observe through the telescope.

history

The planetarium with the Ursensollen observatory was opened on December 12, 2019 after a construction period of almost two years by District President Axel Bartelt. The construction cost of 2.2 million euros was financed 30 percent by the municipality of Ursensollen and 70 percent from other public funds. The tenant and operator is the association “Förderverein Volkssternwarte Amberg-Ursensollen eV”. Before that there was a temporary observatory consisting of office containers, which was built in 2006 and also operated by the association “Förderverein Volkssternwarte Amberg-Ursensollen eV”.

Equipment planetarium

The planetarium with a perforated 6.6 m dome made of aluminum, inclined at 15 degrees, can accommodate 30 visitors. The technical core is the digital fulldome projection system Sky-Skan "DigitalSky Dark Matter" with which, among other things, 3D representation is made possible with the help of shutter technology. The projection takes place via two DLP LED projectors from the manufacturer Norxe, each with 2560x1600 resolution, which are attached to the front and rear of the dome edge. Each projector thus illuminates half of the dome.

In addition to the Hamburg Planetarium and the House of Astronomy in Heidelberg, it is the third 3D planetarium in Germany and the first in Bavaria.

Equipment observatory

The main instrument of the observatory is a 508 mm F / 8 Ritchey-Chrétien-Cassegrain telescope in trellis construction with a focal length of 4 m on a "Sideres 85" mount. An 8 inch Meade Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope is also mounted on a fork mount at ground level . This telescope is also accessible for wheelchair users. The club also owns a Celestron C11 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, which sits on an EQ6 Goto mount. In addition, large APM binoculars (Bino) with a 100 mm opening on a tripod with fork mount are available for wide-field observation. An 80mm Lunt H-alpha telescope was also procured especially for solar observation .
