The Platzer Kiebitz is a single-engine, two-seat ultralight aircraft designed by Michael Platzer .

construction

The lapwing is built as a single-legged braced double - decker in a mixed construction. It is a tail wheel aircraft with a cross tail and two seats one behind the other. The wingspan is 7.6 m, the wing area 18.33 m² with a length of 6.9 m. There are a number of variants that differ in terms of their motorization. Most machines are equipped with four-stroke in- line or boxer engines with an output of 55 to 95 hp .

The maximum permitted speed is (depending on the permitted take-off weight) up to 150 km / h , the maneuvering speed 115 km / h, the speed at maximum power about 125 km / h. The minimum speed is between 45 km / h and 65 km / h. The maximum take-off weight is 330 kg, 400 kg or 450 kg, depending on the version, the empty weight between 180 kg and 285 kg.

The lapwing is a purely do-it-yourself aircraft. There is no kit, but occasionally individual self-builders offer assemblies for exchange, although there are now two companies abroad that offer starter kits or even prefabricated elements. The construction license with a sheet set is offered by the designer Michael Platzer.

Before the UL kibitz, Michael Platzer developed the UL monoplane Motte, the first ultralight aircraft from Germany that can be steered over three axes. The Platzer UL-Moth B2 / B3 (1984) is in the permanent exhibition of the Deutsches Museum .

One of the Lilienthal gliders was recreated airworthy by Michael Platzer and flown personally in the ARD television series Die Grashüpfer . With this aircraft, Platzer is included in the list of lenders of the Staatliche Museen Kassel.

Cinematic reception

A Platzer Kiebitz (D-MMWW) plays an important role in the 2018 film comedy It won't be greener, said the gardener and flew away .
