Play Date

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Playdate or Playdate called, mainly in American usage, a prearranged gathering of children to exercise by a few hours together fun activities.

Playdates became increasingly common after the working hours of guardians became longer and longer and the public media recommended that children of one generation be allowed to play together. Playdates are also linked to child-friendly event programs in museums , parks or playgrounds.

The intention of a playdate is aimed at free movement and interaction for the children in a less structured environment than other planned activities usually offer. Playdates differ accordingly from organized activities such as school sports or school trips etc., precisely because they are not structured according to habit.

Playdates have become more and more a part of the traditional and pop culture way of life in the United States and represent a kind of "time out" in the everyday life of children. Most parents prefer that their children make friends with their peers during these hours, either at meetings two or in small groups. In the case of very young children, most of the parents are present at the playdates and use the time to make friends for their part and to establish contacts with other parents.
