Plaza Zabala

The Plaza Bruno Mauricio de Zabala, or Plaza Zabala for short , is a square in the Uruguayan capital Montevideo .

It is located on the Durango Ring (Circunvalación Durango) in the middle of the Ciudad Vieja . The square is surrounded by Manzanas 32, 38, 39, 90 and 85. The streets Primer (1 °) de Mayo, Rincón, Alzaibar, Washington and Solís meet the square, which are roughly star-shaped . The Plaza Zabala was designed by the landscape painter Édouard André after the decision to create this square was passed in 1878. In 1890 the square for which the Casa del Gobernador had to give way was inaugurated.

Plaza Zabala has been classified as a Monumento Histórico Nacional since 1975 .
