The Plaza de Toros de Logroño (also known as Plaza de Toros de La Ribera ) is a multipurpose hall and bullring with a closable roof in the Spanish city of Logroño , Autonomous Community of La Rioja .

history

The new arena on the Ebro River in Parque de La Ribera is located in the north of the city, just a few meters from the old La Manzanera bullring, which opened in 1915 . It was demolished after the inauguration of the new facility. The construction was planned by the architects Diego Garteiz and Javier Labad. The construction costs were around 12 million euros . The inauguration took place as part of the celebrations for the Fiestas de San Mateo on September 21, 2001. The event takes place on this date every year. For bullfighting, the Plaza de Toros de Logroño is mainly used during the festival. The striking design of the circular sports hall with a glass gallery is reminiscent of a UFO like the Plaza de Toros de Illumbe in Donostia-San Sebastián . The arena has disabled access and, depending on the event, up to 11,046 seats. In addition to bullfighting, the arena is also used for concerts, shows of all kinds and sporting events. The Fiestas de San Mateo 2020 were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic on July 17th.

From March 5th to 7th, 2010 it was the venue for the round of 16 in the Davis Cup between the Spanish team as the defending champions and Switzerland . The hosts won 4-1.
