Plaza de los Treinta y Tres
The Plaza de los Treinta y Tres is a square in the Uruguayan capital Montevideo .
It is located in the Barrio Cordón on Avenida 18 de Julio and Minas , Colonia and Magallanes streets . It was created in 1833 as a result of a local residents' initiative when the square was declared common property for market purposes. Originally called Plaza de Artola , it was given its current name by a decree of the Minister of War and the Navy on November 8, 1856. In 1871 the square was redesigned into a leisure facility. In 1892 it was then redesigned by the landscape painter Édouard André . In 1930 it was given a new look again. In 1982, 1998 and 2000 further structural changes followed by the Intendencia Municipal of Montevideo .
The square has been classified as the Monumento Histórico Nacional since 1975 .
