Plectenchyma

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Plektenchyma (also braided tissue , sham tissue ) is a term from plant morphology . It is mainly found in red algae or the fruiting bodies of mushrooms . A superficial examination often gives the impression of real tissue , but in fact it is stuck, overgrown or matted cell threads. In contrast to real tissues, there are cell connections ( plasmodesmata ) only within these individual cell threads.
