Plessimeter
The plessimeter (or pleximeter) is an aid used in medicine for diagnostics .
It consists of a thin, spatula-shaped plate which is pressed firmly onto the body section to be examined and tapped with a percussion hammer. The advantage is, on the one hand, that the examiner's fingers are spared and the knocking sound thus generated is significantly louder than with direct percussion . While silver and ivory were used in the past , today it is usually made of plastic , the better version is made of surgical steel .
A (possibly larger) variant of the plessimeter is also often used in veterinary medicine .
