  • Pliny the Elder (approx. 23–79 AD), historian and specialist writer ( Naturalis historia , an encyclopedic natural history)
  • Pliny the Younger (61/62 – around 113/115 AD), politician and orator, nephew of Pliny the Elder, author of a collection of letters
  • Oskar Ludwig Bernhard Wolff (1799–1851), pseudonym Pliny the Younger , German writer and improviser
  • Basilius Pliny (originally Basil Plehn or Plöhne; approx. 1570 - around 1604), Livonian doctor and writer ( song of fame in Riga )
  • Pliny Valerianus , alleged author of the pharmaceutical work Physica Plinii
