Plume (atmosphere)

As plume rising are masses of gas in the atmosphere of a planet referred to, which - similar to the geological Plume  - by large and localized heat sources are formed and at least temporarily leave the denser areas of the atmosphere during the upgrade. Atmospheric plumes arise, for example, from the impact or atmospheric bursting of large asteroids or comets , such as the impact of the fragments of the comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 on Jupiter . Also volcanic eruptions or large nuclear explosions can lead to atmospheric plumes.
