Cope time
As pluvial (from Latin pluvia "Rain") refers generally relatively wet periods of the Earth's history, which is often very limited here to spatially, so regional phenomena such as the present concerns Sahara region. In the Mediterranean to tropical areas of Africa north of the equator, this last occurred during the Pleistocene (from 1.8 million years ago to around 11,500 years ago). The term was introduced in 1884 by E. Hull.
The pluvial time is characterized by the formation of mostly four glacis terraces on both sides of a river . The pluvial times alternate with interpluvial times . A correlation of the pluvial times with cold phases of higher latitudes, as was done earlier, is not generally possible due to new research results and remains controversial. The fossil water found in today's desert and semi-desert regions of North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula is likely to have accumulated in pluvial times.
