Plymouth Rocks are a domestic fowl breed bred from Java chickens , Dominicans , Brahma, and Cochin in the mid-19th century . In Europe, they were first exhibited in England in 1872.

The recognized bantam breed, dwarf Plymouth Rock, is significantly more common than the large breed.
