Pneumoperitoneography

The Pneumoperitoneografie is an outdated method for X-ray diagnosis of the abdomen . An artificial pneumoperitoneum is created by the introduction of air . The free gas in the abdominal cavity leads to an increase in contrast in the X-ray image and, as a result of the difference in density, to an emphasis on the organ borders. Since this procedure is associated with the risk of air embolism , the examination procedure is now obsolete, especially since the development of sonography has closed the diagnostic gap in imaging.
