PocoMail does not use Internet Explorer to display HTML mail and does not support Java , VB or J-Script . It is immune to viruses in that it does not automatically open any file attachments or execute scripts.

The program allows the secure display of HTML mails, i. H. Users can choose whether to download images stored on the Internet (this is partially used by spammers to check whether an e-mail address is still active). All links are provided with an addition so that you do not accidentally click on a website belonging to a spammer.

PocoMail offers the option of viewing (and deleting) e-mails online on the server instead of downloading them in any case.

Versions

PocoMail is written in Borland Delphi and is offered in two different versions:

The manufacturer also produces a PIM called Barca which, in addition to the PocoMail functionalities, also contains an appointment calendar.

history

PocoMail has been developed by Slaven Radic in Canada since 1998. In 2003, he and two partners founded the company Poco Systems Inc., which one year later also launched an organizer with a calendar function called Barca based on PocoMail.

PocoMail has received some media exposure, specifically in the US and Canada, in the past five years. In 2000, as a relatively new software, it won the “PC Magazine Shareware of the Year” award and in February 2005 was praised by CBSnews.com as an e-mail alternative to Outlook.

In 2008 Pocosystems Inc. changed hands, but the founder, Slaven Radic, stayed with the company. The software manufacturer Rose City Software declared the version of Pocomail 4.8 released in April 2009 to be the official successor to its email product Courier (formerly Calypso). The specific features of Courier had previously been integrated into Pocomail.
