Antal Csermák

Antal György Csermák [ ˈɒntɒl ˈɟørɟ ˈʧɛrmaːk ] (* 1774 , † October 25, 1822 in Veszprém ) was a Hungarian composer and violinist .

Life

Csermák performed as a violinist in Vienna and Pressburg and was concertmaster at the Hungarian theater in Budapest between 1795 and 1810 . As a soloist he was valued for his interpretations of the violin concertos by Haydn , Mozart and Viotti . He mostly led the life of a travel artist and held a. a. at the Austrian court.

From 1804 he composed, influenced by the Verbunkos of János Bihari and János Lavotta . His motifs can be found in the works of Ferenc Erkel , Franz Liszt and later in those of György Ligeti . Contemporaries liked to refer to him as the Hungarian Beethoven.

Among other things, he composed a string quartet and Hungarian Dances for orchestra.
