Pohl'n'Mayer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pohl'n'Mayer was a German publisher in Kaufbeuren from 1977 to 1990.

history

The small publishing house was founded in 1977 by Kurt Pohl (* 1954) and Karl-Heinz Mayer (* 1955). It emerged from the literary magazine Deutschheft (1972 to 1977, 10 issues). The basis for the publishing concept were the numerous contacts to the Austrian literary scene and the friendship with MaroVerlag in Augsburg. Benno Käsmayr gave the young publishers access to the American and Hamburg literary scene. Pohl worked at Maro for years as a freelancer for editing and advertising, Mayer brought in the connection to the Schwabing literary and filmmaking scene. Pohl and Mayer saw themselves - in the best sense of the word - as amateurs of the literary business. The program initially consisted of protagonists of German pop literature (neon, punk and the start of the legendary Ostbahn Kurti ), later it was possible to discover the Italian-American John Fante for a fan base.

In 1996 Mayer left the joint project, which has continued to exist since then as Verlag Kurt Pohl and - in addition to the support of Daniel Dubbe - on the sporadic edition of rare texts such as Otto Roeld (one of the burned poets ) and Delmore Schwartz (a forerunner of Beat literature ) works.
