The Poignard or Poniard was a French dagger .
Description and use
The Poignard was up to 30 cm long and had a double-edged steel blade, which was usually provided with a wooden handle. It was mostly guided with the left hand. A rapier or a sword was carried in the right hand parallel to the poignard . While the sword was the main weapon of attack in duels , the Poignard could parry the opponent's blows and carry out additional attacks.

The Poignard appeared in France in the 14th century. The art of fencing, with him and a sword in his second hand, quickly spread across Europe. This weapon lasted until the 17th century.
