The Polarstern Canyon is a deep ditch in the Weddell Sea off the Caird Coast of the East Antarctic Coats country .

It is named after the German research ship Polarstern at the suggestion of the surveyor and glaciologist Heinrich Hinze from the Alfred Wegener Institute . The designation was confirmed in June 1997 by the US Advisory Committee for Undersea Features (ACUF).
