The Polar Star , edition from 1961 in memory of the Decembrists .
Polarstern or Poljarnaja swesda ( Russian Полярная звезда , scientific transliteration Poljarnaja zvezda ) is the German name for Russian anthologies published by Alexander Herzen and Nikolai Ogarjow in London (1855–1862) and Geneva (1868). The almanac was named after a Decembrist almanac that was published in St. Petersburg from 1823 to 1825 and published by Alexander Bestuschew and Kondrati Rylejew . The Pole Star contained literary and socio-political contributions and was illegally distributed in Russia. A total of eight volumes were published, with a circulation of up to 1500 copies. It included Herzens memoirs, Ogaryov's poems and works by Nikolai Nekrasov , Pyotr Vyazemsky , Apollon Grigoryev and others.
