Polemon of Ilion

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Polemon the Perieget (* around 200 BC probably in Troy ; † probably in Athens ) was a Greek author and Perieget . He processed the material collected from inscriptions, votive gifts, works of art and public monuments of Greece into various works (e.g. about the castle of Athens etc.), which were subsequently widely used as a treasure trove for archeology and art history. The fragments of his writings were first published by Ludwig Preller (Leipzig 1838) (repeated by Karl Müller , Fragmenta historicorum Graecorum , Volume 3, Paris 1849, pp. 108-148).
