Politics describes the process-like dimension of politics , taken from Anglo-Saxon political science , in which the different aspects of politics are also reflected in language. In contrast to the institutional ( polity ) and content- related ( policy ) dimension, politics is used to describe the dimension of political processes, for example electoral processes , voting , but also lobbying and public relations . In German , this unspecified meaning of the regulation of social coexistence is summarized under the ambiguous term "politics".

In its historical development after analyzing the constitution of political systems (polity), political science has dealt with this aspect of politics in a second phase. Process analyzes deal with research into politics .
