Pollee is the name of a mobile women's urinal that was developed in 2011 by the Danish design office UiWE together with Nuala Collins and Sara Nanna and is specially designed for use at events with a large number of people, such as meetings, concerts or festivals.

development

In March 2011 the organizers of the Roskilde Festival , one of the largest music festivals in Europe, held a conference under the motto "Backstage: Piss-Off", which dealt with the problem of urinating at festivals. Long queues in front of the public toilets and an increasing number of wild peeing put the organizers under pressure to act and pushed the search for possible solutions.

“We had really long toilet queues, where it was often women who stood and waited. This meant that many girls ended up using the fence to urinate. "

“We had really long queues in front of the toilets, in which it was often the women who stood in line and waited. As a result, many girls ended up peeing on the fences. "

- Signe Brink Pedersen, project manager at the Roskilde Festival :

The conference led to the project “Developing human solutions to peeing in public space for both sexes”, with the aim of finding solutions for men and women to make the urination process easier. This project resulted in Pollee, a “non-contact open-air urinal for girls” as an alternative to the often unhygienic mobile toilet cubicles with long queues.

The idea behind Pollee is to develop a clean and convenient alternative to mobile toilets at festivals. While portable urinals were already available to men, this option has so far been denied to women.

Together with the designers Sara Nanna and Nuala Collins, three prototypes were designed based on a crosswise arrangement of triangular urinals around a central strut. Pollee can therefore be used by four people - back to the center - at the same time. The urinals are surrounded by partition walls and panels, which vary in size depending on the type. These are provided with handles. It is used in a partial crouching position ("skier maintenance"). A final version was presented for the first time at the Roskilde Festival 2011 and released for use. The introduction was considered a success. Pollee was used and received positively by many women.
