chicken

The Polish Green-footed is an Old Polish breed of country fowl . It is considered to be relatively original. Due to its degree of endangerment, it is on the FAO Red List .

history

The green-footed chickens were found on farms in southern Poland. The breeding tradition goes back to the 19th century. It was first mentioned in 1892 by Karol Malsburg, who called it " Galician Chicken". At his instruction, Roman Ujejski took over the rearing and presented the chickens for the first time during the National Breeding Show in Lviv in 1894.

properties

The weight of the chickens in the 20th week of their life is 1.7 to 2.2 kg for the rooster and 1.5 to 1.8 kg for the chicken.

Annually, a chicken lays 180 to 190 eggs with a weight of 55 to 59 grams. Green-footed eggs have an almost white shell, taste excellent and have low cholesterol, even up to 30% less than conventional eggs, which is genetic.

These chickens are characterized by their green legs (feet), their beautiful plumage and the excellent taste of the low-fat meat.

attitude

The breeding of green pods requires free-range husbandry and a wooded run, as well as appropriate care.

Green-footed animals tend to be cannibalized in a herd of over 50.
